TexAnns set to host Lions Monday

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnns will look to extend their four-game winning streak on Tuesday, Jan. 3 when the TexAnns host Texas A&M-Commerce at 5 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.

The TexAnns are coming off a 64-57 victory at St. Mary's on Thursday as Tarleton trailed by seven with just over nine minutes remaining in the contest in San Antonio, but the TexAnns outscored the Rattlers 23-9 to take the win.  Lisa Parker led the team with 15 points after she hit five-of-seven from behind the three-point arc.

Tarleton is alone in first place in the Lone Star Conference South Division with an 8-1 record.

This season, the TexAnns' only loss came at home by a desperation long-range shot at the buzzer by Southeastern Oklahoma. The three from way outside the arc gave the Savage Storm a 78-77 win in Wisdom Gym.

The TexAnns are led by Shelby Adamson with 18.8 points per game while Morgan Stehling is second with 11.8 points per outing. Kiara Wright leads the squad with 7.0 rebounds per game while Kelsey Benford is second with 6.6 rebounds per contest. Adamson and Sonya Sundberg are tied for the team lead with 31 assists apiece while Adamson's 25 steals and Benford's 13 blocks are high marks.

Tarleton is averaging .418 from the floor, .344 from the arc and .701 from the charity stripe while opponents are shooting .388 from the field, .281 from the arc and .614 from the line. The TexAnns are outscoring opponents 71.1 to 57.4 and outrebounding them 37.1 to 35.2.

The Lions are 1-8 this season and are coming off an 87-66 loss at Midwestern State on Dec. 20. The lone win for TAMUC this season came on Dec. 13 at home against Eastern New Mexico (64-63).

Mattilyn McIntyre leads the squad with 19.2 points per game while Danielle Dixon (11.3) and Bianca Stevenson (10.7) are also averaging in double digits. Stevenson is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per outing while Shavon Walker (5.4) and Tiffany Mitchell (5.0) are second and third in rebounding, respectively.

The Lions are averaging .400 from the field, .258 from the arc and .644 from the line while opponents are shooting .471 from the floor, .301 from the arc and .691 from the stripe. TAMUC is being outscored 86.1 to 71.4 and outrebounded 42.0 to 40.3.

Tarleton took last year's meeting in Commerce, 84-60. Tarleton led by just four (37-33) with 17:32 left in the contest before outscoring the Lions 47-27 through the rest of the contest.

Tarleton leads the all-time series 18-16, despite having lost seven of the last 10 meetings. Prior to last year's victory, the TexAnns had not won since 2005, a 72-53 win in Stephenville (Jan. 15). Under head coach Ronnie Hearne, the TexAnns are just 3-6 against the Lions.

The game will be broadcast on KSTV 93.1 FM and fans can watch live stats and live video on TarletonSports.com.
