No. 20 TexAnns notch first W with 70-65 win over St. Mary's

- Box Score

STEPHENVILLE – It wasn't the prettiest win Wisdom Gym has seen over the past couple of seasons, but it was a win nonetheless as No. 20 Tarleton (1-2) got its first W of the season Wednesday 70-65  over St. Mary's (0-3).

Unlike the past two games, Tarleton failed to build a big early lead. They only led by as many as five over the first 12 minutes.

With St. Mary's leading 19-16 with 8:34 left in the first half, a pair of 3-pointers by Brianna Bledsoe tied and gave Tarleton the lead to start an 11-1 TexAnn run.

Tarleton managed to maintain its lead over the final 5:28 to go into halftime leading 34-29.

The TexAnns opened the new half with a 9-2 run to extend their lead by 12 with 16:26 to go.

St. Mary's cut the score to 45-40 before Tarleton went on an 11-4 run, capped by a 3-point play the old fashioned way by Bledsoe.

St. Mary's refused to quit, however.

Tarleton built its lead to 15 with 6:25 left, but the Rattlers cut their deficit to just four with a little over two and a half minutes left.

The Adamson sisters went 6-6 from the free throw line down the stretch – Shelby was 4-4 and Peyton was 2-2 – to seal the win for the TexAnns.

Peyton and Cheyenne Berry led the TexAnns with 13 points each while Bledsoe added 11 off the bench. Shanae Lowrance just missed a double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds.

Tarleton shot 46 percent from the field, 39 percent from 3-point land and 68 percent from the free throw line while St. Mary's was 46 percent, 20 percent and 60 percent, respectively.

The TexAnns return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. in Austin against St. Edward's. A live broadcast can be heard on KSTV 93.1 FM.
