No. 17 Lubbock Christian uses second-half surge to down TexAnns

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton entered Tuesday's contest riding a two-game winning streak and heavily favored by the history books over No. 17 Lubbock Christian.
 
The TexAnns entered the contest winners of their last six over the Lady Chaps and 18 of the 19 meetings in the series history.
 
Regardless, Lubbock Christian (3-3) came into Wisdom Gym and handed the TexAnns (2-3) their third loss of the season with an 87-84 win and their first home loss since Dec. 2, 2010.

Tarleton opened up with an early 15-7 lead over the first 5:03 and maintained their lead over most of the first half.
 
The TexAnns never led by less than two over the rest of the first half and built and eight-point lead three more times.
 
Tarleton opened the second half with a quick 9-4 push to lead by 10 with 17:05 left.
 
LCU answered with a 13-6 run to cut the TexAnn lead to three at 50-47 with just over 12 minutes left.
 
After a pair of free throws, Shanae Lowrance added a 3-point play to extend the lead back to four.
 
A pair of Kelsey Hoppel 3-pointers and turn-around jumper gave LCU its first lead of the second half at 60-58 with 9:31 left.
 
Tarleton battled to tie the score five more times, but could never retake the lead as Lubbock Christian held strong down the stretch.
 
Shelby Adamson led the TexAnns with 20 points – 14 coming from the free throw line. Adamson also became Tarleton's all-time made free throw leader and attempted free throw leader in this game, passing assistant coach Misty Wilson.
 
Peyton Adamson was next in scoring for Tarleton with 18 while Shanae Lowrance cracked double figures for the first time this season with 16.
 
LCU's Kelsey Canavan led all scorers with 21 in the paint.
 
Tarleton shot 24-60 from the floor but just 5-21 from beyond the arc.
 
The TexAnns return to action Friday at 6 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo. against Colorado Mesa.
