STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton men's basketball team is starting conference play just a little bit earlier this season when they host the Cameron Aggies at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Wisdom Gym.
The Texans (5-1) are coming off huge wins over Paul Quinn and Southwestern Assemblies of God last week and are starting to hit their stride both offensively and defensively. On the season, Tarleton is shooting 47.4 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent from three-point land and 66.9 percent from the charity stripe. The Texans are averaging 70.3 points per game, but are averaging 80-plus over the last two games.
Opponent's are shooting just 36 percent overall and averaging 55.0 points per game against the Texans. Tarleton is also rebounding its opponents, but commits more turnovers.
Chris Harrell leads the team with 12.0 points per game, while Zach Nelson adds 11.5 and
Fabian Wilson adds 11.0 points each game. Nelson and Wilson are also combining for 14.3 rebounds per game together.
Shedrick Haynes and
Chris Harrell are anchoring the defense with 12 steals each on the year. Wilson leads the team in blocks with 11 total.
The Aggies (3-2) have already played a pair of games in Wisdom Gym this season, but neither were against the Texans. As part of the Texan Tip-Off Classic, Cameron fell to Central Oklahoma, but defeated Washburn, the team that handed Tarleton its only loss thus far this year.
As a team, Cameron is averaging 76.4 points per game and giving up 69.0 points to opposing teams. The Aggies are shooting 45.6 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from three-point range and 69.4 percent from the free throw line.
Cameron is led by Vinicius Telo and his 15.6 points per game. Milton Garner is contributing 14.8 points with Devon Crabtree adding 11.8 points each contest. Garner also leads the Aggies in rebounding with 6.4 per game. Turnovers have been an issue for Cameron, who is averaging 14.2 each time on the floor.
Tip-off is at 8 p.m. for the men's game and 6 p.m. for the women's game. Wednesday will be Greek Night in Wisdom Gym.
