Tarleton hosts Texas Woman's for 'battle of champions'

- Game Notes

STEPHENVILLE - A pair of reigning Lone Star Conference champions will face off for a crucial battle at Wisdom Gym Monday night when Tarleton (5-5, 3-0) hosts Texas Woman's (7-2, 3-2) at 6 p.m.

"It's going to be a battle of champions," said Tarleton head coach Ronnie Hearne. "Of course, we won the South Division championship last year and they won the LSC Tournament.

"They're a good team and the biggest thing for us will be stopping the (Jessica) Hanna girl and executing our game plan," he added. "It should be a great game."

Tarleton enters this game on a three-game winning streak - all in LSC play - including an 83-64 win over Incarnate Word last Saturday, while the Pionners have suffered their two losses in their last five games.

TWU's two conference losses came at the hands of Angelo State in San Angelo and West Texas A&M in Denton.

The Pioneers are led in scoring by China Spring product, Jessica Hanna, who is averaging 17.8 points per contest. Brittney Nazum (14.1), Tiara Davis (13.5), and Tabbatha Thurman (10.1) are also averaging double figures.

Former TexAnn Crystal Atwood is next on the Pioneers scoring list with 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. Atwood has started all nine games for TWO after starting one as a true freshman for Tarleton last season.

The TexAnns will be led by the Adamson sisters, Shelby and Peyton, who are leading the team in scoring with 14.2 and 12.4 points per game.

Peyton is the reigning LSC Offensive Player of Week after draining seven three-balls on Incarnate Word en route to a career-high 27 points.

Tarleton has bounced back from its worst start since 2008 after starting 2-5 and can push their record above .500 for the first time this season with a win.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be followed immediately by the Texans basketball game against West Alabama.

General admission for Monday's games are $1 while kids 14 and under get in free with a paid adult. The concession stand will also be serving hot dogs for $1.
