SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team will return to action at the St. Mary's Round Robin in San Antonio this weekend.
Tarleton will play Emporia State at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 before playing host St. Mary's at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, the TexAnns play the Hornets at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend with a game at SMU at 3:30 p.m.
The TexAnns are 3-1 and are led in the circle by Samantha Swanda with a 1.62 earned run average and a 2-0 record. She has appeared in three games and has two starts with a complete game. She has pitched in 13.0 innings and has allowed just three earned runs and five walks while striking out 16. Opponents are hitting .182 off the TexAnn junior. Katie Smith has started the other two games for the TexAnns with a 1-1 record and a 3.50 ERA. She has pitched in 6.0 innings and has allowed three earned runs and five walks with six strikeouts. The team has a combined ERA of 2.80 and opponents are hitting .216.
Rebecca Wessels leads the team with a .462 batting average with six hits, two runs batted in and she is two-of-three in stolen bases. Kelsey Latta is second with a .455 batting average and five hits while Arianna Rodriguez (.333) and Swanda (.250) each have a team-high four RBI. The TexAnns are hitting .324 as a squad against an opponents' ERA of 5.11.
Emporia State is opening its season this weekend in Texas. The Hornets are scheduled to play at Incarnate Word on Thursday in a doubleheader. ESU is picked to finish second in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
St. Mary's is 8-3 this season and is led by Shelly Lee with a .407 batting average. Chelsea Wenske (.400) leads the team with 14 hits and 11 RBI while Lauren Miller (.343) is second with 10 RBI and 12 hits. The team is hitting .318, and opponents have a 5.41 ERA.
Emily Brittain is tops on the squad with 2.33 ERA with a 3-2 record. She has pitched in 36.0 innings of action with seven walks and 28 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .200 against her. SMU has a team ERA of 2.87 and opponents are hitting .256.
