TexAnn softball to host Cameron Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team will return to action at home on Tuesday, Feb. 22 when it hosts Cameron in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.

The TexAnns are 6-2 on the season after going 3-1 this week with a 9-8 win over No. 25 Emporia State and by sweeping St. Mary's, 5-3 and 8-0 (six innings).  Tarleton lost to ESU 6-0. 

Rebecca Wessels leads the team with a .480 batting average with 12 hits and a .581 on-base percentage.  She is six-of-seven in stolen bases to lead the squad.  Also hitting above the .300-mark are Kelsey Latta (.333), Abigail Tammen (.321) and Arianna Rodriguez (.308). Tarleton is hitting .304 as a squad and opponents have a combined ERA of 4.34. 

Samantha Swanda leads the team with a 4-0 record and a 2.68 ERA.  She has pitched in 26.0 innings of action and has six walks and 27 strikeouts.  Opponents are hitting .240 off the junior.  Katie Smith is 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA and has six walks and 12 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work.  The TexAnns have a combined ERA of 3.23 and opponents have a .256 batting average. 

Cameron is 4-10 this season after claiming three wins in six games at the Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament this weekend in Durant, Okla.

The Aggies' stats are not updated on their website to include the last four games from Saturday or Sunday.  However, the CU did get a 3-1 win over Texas A&M-International on Sunday while losing to Missouri Western (1-0).  On Saturday, the Aggies defeated both Ouachita Baptist (2-0) and Henderson State (6-1).
