STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will travel to Kingsville Friday and Saturday for a three-game series with the Javelinas.
Last week, the Texans picked up three wins, including a pair of victories over No. 16 Incarnate Word. That gives Tarleton three wins this season over ranked teams.
The Texans are 7-2 overall on the year and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. Tarleton is currently No. 4 in the conference, but could improve that standing this weekend with a couple of wins over a very good A&M-Kingsville team.
This year, the Texans are No. 6 in the LSC in pitching with a 5.14 ERA and No. 7 in hitting with a .284 average. They do rank No. 2 in the conference however in fielding with a .967 percentage. Tarleton is also 4-1 on the road.
Individually,
Miguel Ramirez leads the LSC with a 0.68 ERA, followed closeley by fellow Texan
Ryan Turner, who has the second best ERA in the conference with 0.87.
Turner also leads Tarleton with three wins, two saves and 17 strike outs, while Ramirez has the Texans' lone complete game this season.
Travis Hayes is leading the offense for Tarleton with a .444 average and 12 hits, while
Mark Jeffery is hitting a .421 average and
Landon McCall is hitting a .360 average.
Chris Casazza leads the team with eight RBI's, with
Reagan Janda and
Andrew Kapple adding six each. Casazza and Janda have also both homered twice this year.
A&M-Kingsville on the other hand is 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the LSC. The Javelinas have struggled at home, posting just a 3-2 record in Kingsville, but have a win over No. 8 Abilene Christian under their belt.
Chris Ballou leads the offense with a .407 average, to go along with 11 runs and seven RBI's, but its Adrian Wiliams that has a team-high 10 runs driven in. Adams Aspaas has added nine RBI's. The Javelinas have yet to hit a home runs this season.
A&M-Kingsville's pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.96, the third best mark in the conference. Clay Stephens has a team-high two wins , while Tim Jones leads the Javelinas with 16 strike outs and 18 innings pitched.
