DENTON – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team will play Henderson State in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 22 at 5 p.m. on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton.

The TexAnns are 14-9-1 overall this season and are coming off a 2-1 weekend in Kingsville against Texas A&M-Kingsville to improve to 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference South Division – good enough for third place.
Rebecca Wessels leads the team with a .411 batting average, 30 hits, 24 runs scored, two triples and 15-of-18 stolen bases. Samantha Swanda (.313) is tops on the squad with a .563 slugging percentage and 23 runs batted in while the TexAnns are hitting .286 as a squad while opponents have an combined earn run average of 3.44.
Swanda leads the team in the circle with a 2.05 ERA and an 8-5 record. She has pitched in 92.0 innings and has 93 strikeouts and 29 walks. Katie Smith is second with a 2.62 ERA and a 4-2 record in 42.2 innings of action. She had thrown 25 strikeouts and given up 15 walks. The team has a combined ERA of 2.34 while opponents are hitting .248.
Henderson State is 11-14 overall and is scheduled to play TWU on Monday.
The Lady Reddies are led by Sarah Lankford with a .442 batting average, 34 hits, four home runs and 19 RBI. She has a .675 slugging percentage which also tops the squad. Ashley Ray (.346) is the only other player hitting above the .300-mark as HSU has a team hitting percentage of .265 while opponents have combined ERA of 3.81 against the Lady Reddies.
Britney Benedict is tops the squad with a 2.67 ERA. She is 3-6 in 64.0 innings of work while walking 26 and striking out 47. Melissa Decker (7-3) has a 2.93 ERA with 67.2 innings pitched. She has walked 17 batters and struck out 43. The team has a combined ERA of 3.58 while opponents are hitting .266 this season against HSU.
This will be just the second time these two teams have met. Tarleton won the first meeting on Feb. 22, 2009 in Hot Springs, Ark., 7-0.
