STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will travel to San Angelo Friday to take on Angelo State in a three game series this weekend.
The Texans are hoping to rebound from a 1-2 series against Abliene Christian last weekend, but Tarleton has had an entire week to prepare for their matchup with the Rams this week.
Overall this year, the Texans are 17-7 and 12-6 in the Lone Star Conference. Tarleton has also managed to be even more succesful on the road than at home with a 9-3 mark away from Stephenville.
As a team, the Texans are hitting a .296 average, while recording a .446 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage. They are lead by
Mark Jeffery, who has a .467 average, the second best in the LSC, and 19 RBI's.
Travis Hayes is adding a .393 average while
Ethan Stuckly has a team-high 24 RBI's and a .383 average.
Chris Casazza has a Tarleton-best eight home runs on the year to go along with 20 RBI's and 22 runs scored.
The Texans also continue to lead the conference with a .968 fielding percentage and have 14 players with perfect 1.000 percentages.
The Tarleton pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.32, compared to opposing teams' 5.90 ERA. Closer
Ryan Turner has 31 k's and five saves to anchor the Texans bullpen, while
Brandyn Greer is 2-0 in relief. Starter
Nathan Lewis has been stellar in his last couple of starts with a 3-1 record and coming off his first complete game of the year.
Angelo State is 17-12 on the year, but has been in a slump as of late with a five game losing streak. Three of those losses have come against ranked opponents however. The Rams are also 11-7 in the conference and 7-4 at home. They swept ACU earlier this season, the team that Tarleton just dropped two of three games against.
Overall, ASU is hitting a .288 average, led by Garrett Harris's .365 mark. Tate Allison leads the Rams with 22 RBI's, while Zach Cohen has contributed 34 hits and 27 runs, both ASU bests.
The Ram pitching staff is the best in the LSC with a 3.96 ERA and six saves in 223 innings pitched. Reliever James Conlee has made 18 appearances this season and posts a 1.80 ERA and five saves. Bryant Rutledge is ASU's leading starter with a 4-2 record, a 2.53 ERA, and 49 strikeouts.
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., while game one of the doubleheader Saturday starting at 3 p.m.
