Tarleton baseball set to host St. Edward's Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE - The No. 30 Tarleton Texan baseball team will welcome the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's Tuesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.

Tarleton enters the game with a 29-10 record on the season and will look to end a three-game skid.  St. Edward's on the other hand is 19-18 and winners of two of their last three games.

As a team, the Texans are hitting a .310 average, while recording a .492 slugging percentage and a .407 on-base percentage.  Ethan Stuckly leads the offense with a .403 average to go with 36 RBI's, 58 hits and 20 extra-base hits.  Chris Casazza has added 37 RBI's and 13 home runs, while Mark Jeffery has recorded a .364 average and 33 RBI's.  Landon McCall and Tim Rainey have provided the Texans with a threat on the base paths with 14 and 10 steals respectively.

Tarleton continues to lead the Lone Star Conference in fielding percentage with a .968 mark.

The pitching staff for the Texans has a combined ERA of 5.03, compared to opponents' 6.39 ERA.  Nathan Lewis has a team high six wins and has collected 41 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings of work.  Ryan Turner posts a 5-2 record to go with eight saves and 49 k's, both Tarleton highs.  Jake Sowell (4-0) and Brandyn Greer (3-0) are both undefeated out of the bullpen this year, which has been a strength for the Texans.

The Hilltoppers were unable to overcome the Texans earlier this season in Austin, falling by a score of 5-3.  They have improved since then and now post a .309 average, a .433 slugging percentage and a .390 on-base percentage.  Adam Shank leads the team with a .400 average, 52 RBI's and six home runs.  Taylor Johnson has chipped in 32 RBI's to go with a .352 average, while Collin Elmore and Will McCaleb have driven in 28 and 27 runs respectively.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.  Come out and show your support for the Texans.
