SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton TexAnns will play a three-game, Lone Star Conference South Division series this weekend at Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
The two teams, which are tied for third in the South Division heading into the weekend competition, will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 8 beginning at 3 p.m. The third game of the series is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m.
The TexAnns fell to 17-16-1 overall with the weekend results at the LSC Crossover Tournament in San Angelo. The lone win in the five games came over then-No. 3 Midwestern State, 2-1. The TexAnns and the Cardinals are tied at 5-4 in divisional play.
Rebecca Wessels leads the team with a 394 batting average this season, 41 hits, four doubles and is 20-of-24 in stolen bases. Samantha Swanda (.282) leads the squad with 30 RBI and nine home runs as the TexAnns are hitting .280 as a squad and are forcing opponents to have an ERA of 3.18.
In the circle, Fentress has a 2.42 ERA and a 2-3 record in 46.1 innings of action with 35 strikeouts. Swanda (9-9) has a 2.46 ERA in 119.1 innings of action. She leads the team with 118 strikeouts and 44 walks. Katie Smith (6-4) has a 2.50 ERA in 67.1 innings with 34 strikeouts. Tarleton has a combined ERA of 2.47 while opponents are hitting .243 off the TexAnns' staff.
