Softball drops final game of series at UIW

SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team dropped the third game of the Lone Star Conference South Division series at Incarnate Word on Saturday in San Antonio, 4-0.

UIW (23-18, 8-4) pitcher Briana Sanchez had a no-hitter going before an Alexandria Orf double in the top of the seventh win no outs gave Tarleton (17-19-1, 5-7) its first hit of the day. An error on the second baseman allowed Hannah Hancock to reach before a single by Abigail Tammen up the middle loaded the bases. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the TexAnn attack.  

Tarleton starter Randi Fentress (2-4) pitched 4.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Samantha Swanda came into the game and recorded 0.2 innings with a run on one hit and a walk with two strikeouts before Katie Smith pitched the final 0.2 innings.

UIW scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the third to take an early lead before adding three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim the victory.

Sanchez pitched all seven innings and allowed just two hits with two walks while striking out 12 TexAnn batters.

Tarleton will return to action at home on Tuesday, April 12 with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
