ABILENE – The No. 20 Tarleton baseball team fell to the Cameron Aggies in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament Saturday night in Abilene by a score of 4-1.
The No. 4 seeded Aggies got off to a fast start in their first meeting with Tarleton this season. Cameron managed two runs in both the first and second innings.
The Texans got on the board in the seventh with Zane Hensley's sacrifice fly to left, scoring Junnior Dishmey.
Unfortunately for Tarleton, that would be all the runs they would manage in the game, dropping their first round match 4-1.
Dishmey led the Texans with a 2-for-4 day and a run scored while Hensley provided the RBI. Tarleton recorded six hits on the day, while Cameron managed nine.
Brandyn Greer (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up four runs on 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Salt was stellar in relief, pitching 6 1/3 shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Ricky Cramer picked up the win for the Aggies, going all nine innings and allowing just one run with nine strikeouts for Cameron.
The Texans (35-12) will now face top-seeded Incarnate Word, winners over A&M-Kingsville, in an elimination game for Tarleton at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 8.
