Texans ousted by top-seeded Cardinals Sunday

-Box Score

ABILENE – The No. 22 Tarleton baseball team fell to the Cardinals of Incarnate Word Sunday by a score of 12-2, ending the Texans' hopes at a Lone Star Conference championship.

UIW got things going in the second inning with a single run, then added another in the third and two more in the fifth.

Tarleton found themselves down heading into the sixth 4-0.  That is when the Cardinals exploded for five runs, pushing the deficit to nine runs.

The Texans managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Chris Casazza and an error that plated Zane Hensley.

The lead proved to be too much for Tarleton though, as UIW went on to add three more runs, making it a 12-2 final.

Casazza gave the Texans their lone RBI, while Tim Rainey went 2-for-3 on the day to lead the way.  Tarleton combined for eight hits in the game, while allowing 18 to the Cardinals.

Nathan Lewis (8-2) was saddled with just his second loss of the year after giving up four runs on seven hits in four innings.

Jorge Guarneros (10-1) picked up the win for UIW with just one earned run allowed through seven innings of work.

The Texans (35-13) will return home to wait for their potential regional spot that will be announced next week.
