Tarleton puts seven-game streak on line against young Rambelles

- Game Notes

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton and Angelo State have been doing battle on the court for a long time - 36 years in fact.

Wednesday marks the 40th meeting between these Lone Star Conference contenders since 1976 - the longest rivalry in TexAnn history - and it's a big one for both teams.

Angelo State (7-6, 5-2) comes into Wisdom Gym as winners of two straight and four of their last five while Tarleton (9-5, 6-0) is riding the momentum of a 69-62 over West Texas A&M and a seven-game winning streak.

This marks just the third time Tarleton has won, at least, seven in a row since joining the Lone Star Conference in 1994. All three streaks have come in the last three seasons.

The Rambelles are coming off a come-from-behind win against Incarnate Word in San Antonio where they were led by freshman Haylee Oliver with 16 points.

Oliver, a true freshman from San Saba, is Angelo's leading scorer with 11.5 per contest.

Oliver isn't the only youngster to produce for the Rambelles as Angelo is one of the youngest teams in the LSC with 10 underclassmen, including five true freshmen.

Another true freshman seeing significant time this season is Hico native, Cassi Stegall, who will make her first trip back to the area since signing with ASU following her record-setting career as a Lady Tiger.

Tarleton will counter Angelo's youth with one of the most experienced teams in the conference. The TexAnns' have four seniors compared to ASU's one.

The TexAnns are coming off a 69-62 win over the WT Lady Buffs which they were led by Peyton Adamson with 16 points while Kiara Wright and Lisa Parker added 14 each.

Karli Moore also had a breakout game.

The true freshman set a career-high in rebounds (5) and points (11), including a lay-up in the final minutes to put the brakes on a WT comeback.

Tip-off between Angelo State and Tarleton is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday in Wisdom Gym. It is Dublin night at Tarleton and all Dublin residents get in free with proof of residency.
