COMMERCE – Tarleton (12-5, 9-0) won their 10th straight game Wednesday by a wide-margin, as the TexAnns went to Texas A&M-Commerce and handed the Lions (1-14, 0-9) an 89-61 loss in the opening game of Rivalry Week in the Lone Star Conference.
The loss for the Lions is also their 11
th straight.
To open the contest,
Kiara Wright won the opening tip-off then went to the baseline where she received a pass from
Shelby Adamson to score the first points of the game just six seconds into the game.
The TexAnns never looked back.
The Wright layup started a 9-0 Tarleton run over the first 2:03 to force a Commerce timeout.
Over the next five minutes Commerce was able to stay close with the TexAnns, pulling to within six points at 14-8.

Lisa Parker answered, however, by drained a 3-ball on back-to-back offensive possessions – with a Lion free throw in between – to extend the TexAnn lead back to double digits at 20-9.
The TexAnns extended their lead to as many as 15, but the Lions responded with a 10-3 run down to the 2:41 mark of the opening half to trail 33-25.
Shelby and
Peyton Adamson combined for nine unanswered points over the final 2:16 of the opening half to give the TexAnns a 42-25 lead at halftime.
At the break, Tarleton was led in scoring by a trio of Rockwall natives - Shelby and
Peyton Adamson with 10 each and
Shanae Lowrance with eight.
Out of the break, Wright got the scoring started yet again with a quick lay-up to push the Tarleton lead to 19. The TexAnns maintained a 21-point lead over the next 15 minutes.
At the five-minute mark of the second half, Shelby drained a pair of free throws to start a 15-7 run over the rest of the game to give Tarleton its biggest lead of the game at 30. TAMUC hit a layup with 36 seconds left to bring the final difference to 28.
Shelby led the TexAnns with 21 points while Peyton just missed her third straight 20-point effort by scoring 18. The younger Adamson was 6-7 from the floor and 4-4 from 3-point land while the elder sister went 5-6 from the floor and 10-13 from the free throw line in addition to seven assists.
Shelby's seven assists moved her past Julie Foster-Mata for fifth place on the TexAnns' all-time assist list. She has 396 for her career.
Lowrance finished with 15 and Wright tallied 10 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes.
Tarleton returns home Saturday for a rematch with A&M-Commerce. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Wisdom Gym in Stephenville.
