STEPHENVILLE – Something is going to bend Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference leading Tarleton TexAnns (13-5, 10-0) take their red-hot offense to Lawton, Okla. where they face the conference's leading defensive unit, Cameron (12-4, 8-3).
After sweeping Texas A&M-Commerce in rivalry week, the TexAnns are averaging 90 points per game over their last three contests and are riding an 11-game winning streak – a streak that started Nov. 30 with a 71-59 win over Cameron.
TexAnns have been led by a trio of offensive stars,
Peyton Adamson,
Shelby Adamson and
Kiara Wright.
Peyton enters Wednesday's game as one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation, ranking 13th in 3-pointers made per game (2.9) and 3-point percentage (.444). The sophomore transfer is 20-28 from downtown over her last four games and has been named LSC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season.
She is averaging 13.7 points per contest, good for ninth in the Lone Star Conference.
Her older sister, Shelby, is leading the TexAnns in scoring (14.2), assists (4.9) and steals (1.9) per game. In Tarleton's last two games, Adamson scored 34 points and moved into fifth place on Tarleton's all-time assist list. She has 401 for her career.
Since returning to the hardwood, Wright has dominated by posting two double-doubles and just missing a triple-double in Saturday's blowout of the Lions. She finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and a career-high six assists.
On the season, Wright is averaging 13.8 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Wright missed the first contest between these teams, when Cameron fell 71-59 in Stephenville despite having both post players record double-doubles.
Since that November contest, Cameron has been playing well.
Despite losing their last two, Cameron is 10th in the nation and first in the LSC in scoring defense while Sabelle Diata is second in the conference in rebounds and first in blocked shots.
Tip-off between the conference's hottest offense and top defense is set for 6 p.m. in Lawton, Okla.
