TexAnns make it 12 in a row with win over Aggies

LAWTON, OKLA. – The TexAnns used a huge second half to run over the Aggies, 68-49 in Lawton, Okla. Wednesday night.  With the win, Tarleton has now won 12 straight games.

Tarleton took an early lead despite the raucous Cameron crowd against them.  The Aggies hung with the TexAnns out of the gate, but Tarleton started to get into the flow of their offense.

An early 6-5 lead quickly became a 10-5 advantage in favor of the TexAnns.

Cameron continued to stay stride-for-stride with Tarleton however, keeping the scoring margin in single digits.  The Aggies even tied the game late in the first half at 17-17 with 5:23 to go.

Tarleton and Cameron traded baskets over the next few minutes, but it would be the TexAnns that put together a couple of clutch baskets late to take over momentum.

By halftime, Tarleton had pulled ahead by five, but it was not a comfortable lead for the TexAnns on the road.  Tarleton led 29-24 at the break.

Through the first 20 minutes of play, Tarleton shot 37.1 percent from the floor and struggled from both the three-point line and free-throw line, where the TexAnns shot 12.5 percent and 33.3 percent respectively.  Despite the low percentage, Tarleton still enjoyed a five-point lead.

Cameron shot 28.6 percent in the first half, but converted on 83.3 percent of their free throws.

The TexAnns crushed the Aggies on the boards through the first half, out-rebounding Cameron 29-16.

Shanae Lowrance was Tarleton's leading scorer with six points, while Shelby Adamson added five points and eight rebounds.  Kiara Wright also contributed five points and six rebounds.

Sabelle Diata was Cameron's main threat with nine points and four rebounds.

As the second half got underway, Tarleton extended their lead quickly by pounding the ball inside and getting to the free throw line.

By the 17:48 mark, the TexAnns had taken a double-digit lead, 34-24.  Cameron would mount a rally of their own though and cut the lead down to three points with 9:56 remaining in the game.

Tarleton saw their lead dwindle, but a passionate Coach Ronnie Hearne motivated the TexAnns to stick with it.  The Cameron crowd in an old Aggie Gym caused for a loud environment, but the veterans for Tarleton got the offense rolling once again.

The TexAnns pushed the tempo and got the lead back up to double-figures with 7:44 left in the game.  From there, Tarleton never looked back and extended the margin to as high as 19 points.

That would be where the final score would land as the TexAnns won their 12th straight game, 68-49 over the Aggies.

Shelby Adamson finished the game tying a career-high with 11 rebounds.  She also added nine points and three assists.  Kiara Wright led the TexAnns with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Peyton Adamson added 13 points and six boards.

Overall, Tarleton shot 44.8 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Cameron 49-30.  The TexAnns held the Aggies to a dismal 27.3 percent shooting on the night.

Next up, Tarleton will have their toughest contest to date as they battle Midwestern State on Saturday night for Lone Star Conference standings position.  The TexAnns enter the game No. 1 while the Mustangs are No. 2.

Tip-off is at 5 p.m. Saturday in Wisdom Gym and it will be Purple Out Night.
