No. 4 Texans host No. 10 Mustangs as Fox Sports Southwest's Game of the Week

STEPHENVILLE - Head coach Lonn Reisman celebrated win No. 500 with a victory against A&M-Commerce last Saturday.  Now, No. 4 Tarleton will face their toughest opponent in No. 10 Midwestern State on Saturday in Wisdom Gym as part of Fox Sports Southwest's Game of the Week.  The Texans and Mustangs will battle for LSC bragging rights and someone will go home with just their second loss of the season.

GAMETIME
    Tip-off is at 7 p.m. for the men's game and 5 p.m. for the women's game in Wisdom Gym.  Live video will be on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and FoxSportsHouston.com free of charge.

LAST WEEK
    The Texans (18-1) trailed for just the second time this season at halftime, but rallied to take a double-digit lead in the second half.  Cameron roared back though and made a one-possession ball game down the stretch.  The Aggies' last second effort fell short though and Tarleton escaped with a 65-62 victory.

THIS YEAR
    On the season, Tarleton is shooting 48.7 percent from the floor, 32.7 percent from three-point land and 69.7 percent from the charity stripe.  The Texans are averaging 70.5 points per game and 35.8 rebounds per game.

HOLDING OFF OPPONENTS
    Opponent's are shooting just 35.6 percent overall and averaging 53.4 points per game against the Texans.  Tarleton is No. 1 in the nation in points allowed and field goal percentage allowed.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
    Chris Harrell leads the Texans with 13.6 points per game and shoots 86.1 percent from the free throw line.  Fabian Wilson is adding 11.2 points and 6.6 boards per contest, while Shedrick Haynes contributes 10.5 points and 3.5 assists each game.

SIZING UP THE OPPONENT
    Midwestern State has been on fire all season, despite losing last year's LSC Player of the Year Chris Hagan.  The Mustangs are 16-1 and 9-1 in LSC action.  Their lone loss came at Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 14, 80-72.  Even though they fell to the Greyhounds, MSU is playing their best basketball as of late.
 
STOPPING THE MUSTANGS
    As a team, the Mustangs are shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 29.9 percent from three-point range and 61.0 percent from the free throw line.  MSU is averaging 75.6 points per game, which is second best in the league.  They also hold opponents to 60.8 points a game, which is third best.
    The Mustangs lead the all-time series 38-21, but Tarleton has won three of the last four meetings.

WHO TO LOOK FOR
    MSU is led offensively by Michael Loyd, who is averaging 12.8 points per game, and JaMichael Rivers, who is averaging 11.3 points each contest.
    David Terrell returns from last season's squad to lead the team in rebounding with 6.6 boards a ball game. He is also No. 2 in the conference in field goal percentage (.629).

AMONG THE BEST
    The Texans are ranked near the top of almost every statistical category in the conference.
    Tarleton is No. 1 in scoring defense (53.4 ppg) and No. 1 in scoring margin (+17.1).  The Texans are also No. 1 in field goal defense (.356), No. 2 in three-point field goal defense (26.9) and No. 2 in rebounding defense (29.6).
    Individually, Chris Harrell is No. 9 in scoring (13.6 ppg), while Fabian Wilson is No. 4 in rebounding (6.6) and No. 4 in blocks (0.9).  Shedrick Haynes is No. 4 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) as well as No. 5 in assists (3.5). Harrell and Coleman Furst are both in the top four in free throw percentage.

REMAINING IN THE RANKINGS
    Tarleton was ranked No. 8 in the NABC/NCAA Division II Preseason Polls and No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll.
    The Texans are now No. 4 in the nation and have a solid hold on No. 1 in the LSC standings.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
    The Texans will host Midwestern State Saturay, A&M-Kingsville next Wednesday and travel to Incarnate Word next Saturday.

REISMAN'S QUEST FOR 500
    Head coach Lonn Reisman recently accomplished the feat of win No. 500 at Tarleton.  He entered the season with a career record of 483-210.
