STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton made it 13 in row two times Saturday night.
Not only did the TexAnns (15-5, 12-0) extend their season-long winning streak to a baker's dozen, but Tarleton also recorded their 13
th consecutive victory over Midwestern State by knocking off the Mustangs 77-62 in front of 2,817 fans at Wisdom Gym and the nation on Fox Sports Southwest to maintain sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference.
This victory also punched the TexAnns' ticket to Allen for the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the ninth straight season.
Kiara Wright got the game started with a layup – which would eventually turn into a routine occurrence – to put the TexAnns up 2-0 just 12 seconds into the game.
Midwestern struck for a quick 7-0 push to lead by five and force Tarleton to call a timeout.
Out of the break, Wright answered with back-to-back layups to start an 18-2 Tarleton run. Wright scored Tarleton's first six points.
Another 7-0 MSU run brought the Mustangs back to within four points at 20-16 with 11:7 left in the first half.
Over the next eight minutes, Tarleton led by as many as nine before Midwestern cut the lead back to three at 31-28 with 3:50 left.
Karli Moore gave the TexAnns a little breathing room with a layup off a pass by
Lisa Parker. Moore added a jumper on the next possession which was followed by a
Shelby Adamson layup to extend the TexAnn lead back to nine with 2:17 left.
Midwestern got the deficit to six with time winding down, and hit a 3-point buzzer beater to go into halftime trailing only by three.
Shanae Lowrance got the TexAnn offense going in the second half with a quick layup.
Midwestern tried to bring the score back even several times in the second half, but Tarleton always answered.
With 16:24 left and Tarleton leading by just one, Lowrance and
Peyton Adamson scored back-to-back layups to extend the lead.
MSU cut the lead to two, but
Tara Towns answered with a 3-point play, the old-fashioned way.
MSU cut the lead to three with 11:44 left, and Lowrance hit a layup to start a 6-0 Tarleton push to lead 56-47 with 10:02 left.
That was the last fight Midwestern had left as Tarleton poured on a 21-15 run over the rest of the game to claim the 15-point win.
Shelby Adamson led all scorers with 20 points. She also added five rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
In this game, Shelby became just the sixth player in Tarleton history to score over 1,400 points for a career. She now has 1,416 and is 24 points shy of tying assistant coach
Misty Wilson for fifth place all-time.
She also moved into fourth place on the all-time assist list, passing Katie Crawford, with 409 for her career.
Kiara Wright tallied 19 points and 10 rebounds, recording her seventh career double-double and third this season.
Lowrance also scored in double figures with 13 and went 5-5 from the field to improve on her field goal percentage, in which she is second in the Lone Star Conference.
Tarleton shot 65 percent from the floor in the second half and 54 percent for the game, while MSU struggled with just 35 percent for the contest.
The TexAnns will be home again Wednesday for the second season meeting with Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
