LSC preseason polls place TexAnns at the top

Ronnie Hearne's TexAnns have been named the preseason favorites by the Lone Star Conference.
STEPHENVILLE - The Lone Star Conference announced its preseason polls Thursday afternoon as a part of Online Media Day and the TexAnns have been chosen as the the preseason favorites to defend their LSC Championship.

"Honestly, it's a little surprising to me because we've lost a lot of players from last year, but it's very good to be recognized," said head coach Ronnie Hearne. " We realize those polls are based a lot by the things we did last year and we have a lot of young players who are looking forward to the challenge of upholding these predictions this season."

Tarleton claimed the top spot in the polls with a total of 323 points and 20 first-place votes, which was significantly more than second-place West Texas A&M, who received seven first-place votes and 303 total points.

Falling in behind Tarleton and WT were Midwestern State, Angelo State and Incarnate Word in the three, four and five spots, respectively. Incarnate Word reached the finals of the LSC Championship Tournament last season as the four-seed before falling to the TexAnns.

Rounding out the polls are Texas Woman's, Abilene Christian, Cameron, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce, respectively.

In addition to the preseason polls, ACU's Mack Lankford was tabbed as the LSC Preseason Player of the Year, but Kiara Wright and Peyton finished just behind the Wildcat junior with four points each. Both TexAnns were members of the LSC Championship All-Tournament team last season in Allen with Adamson bringing home the MVP award.

"Kiara and Peyton are both very deserving of preseason recognition and I expect both of them to have a big season for us," said Hearne.

Adamson was recently named honorable mention all-american by the D2 Bulletin after leading the team with 13.5 points per game and leading the nation in free throw percentage at 92.4 percent last season.

The TexAnns will begin their LSC title defense Nov. 12 when they host Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
