Fenske, Barnes tabbed LSC Players of the Week

RICHARDSON – Tarleton's Jake Fenske and Blake Barnes were each tabbed Lone Star Conference Players of the week according to a release from the league office on Monday. Fenske (QB, Jr, Round Rock) earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Barnes (K, Fr, Stephenville) was named this week's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Fenske, making just his third collegiate start this past Saturday, completed 23 passes and set the Tarleton school record for passing yards in a single game with 460 yards in the Texan's regular-season finale. Fenske tossed three touchdowns in the game as well, connecting with receivers from 35, 53 and 66 yards out. The Round Rock native has been very impressive over the last three weeks, accumulating over 1,200 yards through the air and leading the team with 11 touchdown passes.

Fenske, who set a school record and tied the LSC mark with a 99-yard touchdown pass last Saturday, shares the award with Abilene Christian quarterback Mitchell Gale and Midwestern State running back Chauncey Harris.

Barnes went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts on Saturday in Tarleton's 17-point win. The Stephenville native kicked a career-long 47-yard field goal late in the third quarter to give the true freshman 18 field goals on the season to tie the school's all-time single-season record. Barnes netted 92 total points on the season as well, going 18-for-20 in field goal attempts and 38-for-38 in extra point attempts. He finished the season with the third most points scored in a single season at Tarleton.

The Texans finished the 2012 season 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the LSC. Tarleton and Texas A&M-Kingsville finished tied for third-place in the conference.
