ODESSA – The No. 21 dropped an overtime heartbreaker Tuesday night, falling to Texas-Permian Basin 82-79 at Falcon Gym in Odessa.
 
Tarleton (1-1) is now 7-2 all-time against UTPB (4-0), having dropped the last two games in the series – both by three points and in Odessa.
 
In the extra period Tarleton won the tip and with time winding down on the shot clock, 
Peyton Adamson drilled a deep 3-pointer to put the TexAnns up 73-70. After a 
Brianna Bledsoe steal, Adamson added one more on a free throw.
 
With Tarleton up four, UTPB answered with seven straight points to lead 77-74 before Adamson converted on a 3-point play to tie the game again at 77-77. UTPB then hit four unanswered free throws to lead 81-77 with 11.8 seconds left.
 
Tarleton turned the ball over on the ensuing possession and was forced to foul. UTPB went 1-2 at the line and 
Kiara Wright drained a free throw line jumper to bring the final score to 82-79.
 
This is Tarleton's first single-overtime game since March 1, 2008. They played two double-overtime games in 2011 and are now 9-13 in single-overtime games.
 
After the opening tip, everything seemed to be going the way of the Falcons over the first two minutes as UTPB struck for a quick 7-0 run.
 
Adamson got the TexAnns on the board with a 3-ball at the 17:22 mark to start a 10-0 TexAnn run to put Tarleton on top for the first time. The final three points of the run also came on an Adamson deep ball.
 
After UTPB scored the next five unanswered to retake the lead at 12-10, 
Cheyenne Berry hit a layup to tie the game at 12-12. The scored stayed even over the next six minutes until 
Kiara Wright converted a 3-point play to put Tarleton up 22-19 with 8:59 to play.
 
The TexAnns outscored the Falcons 16-15 over the final eight minutes to go into halftime with a 38-34 lead.
 
Out of the break, Berry hit back-to-back jumpers to push the TexAnn lead to 42-34.
 
The TexAnns kept their lead at eight through the first three minutes, but UTPB answered with a 10-0 run to knot the score at 44-44.
 
UTPB went to take a late lead, by as many as four but the TexAnns fought back to tie the score and eventually retake the lead on a 
Karli Moore jumper with 3:20 left.
 
With time dwindling down and the score tied, 
Kiara Wright found a cutting Berry for a layup to take the lead 70-68. UTPB drained a jumper with five seconds left to force the extra period.
 
Berry led the TexAnns with 20 points, her first 20-point game as a TexAnn, while Wright and Adamson each had 17. Wright added 11 rebounds for her 15
th career double-double.
 
Tarleton will return home after the Thanksgiving break for a Saturday matchup against Northeastern State at 5 p.m.
