Bledsoe, Wright set career highs in rout of ACU

Adamson also pours in 23 points

Brianna Bledsoe set a career-high 16 points Saturday night against Abilene Christian.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Brianna Bledsoe and Kiara Wright each set career highs Saturday night as the TexAnn tandem led Tarleton (5-2, 3-0) to a 78-60 blowout victory against Abilene Christian (4-2, 3-1).

Bledsoe's 16 points topped her previous high of 14 points she set as a freshman against East Central while Wright grabbed 19 rebounds which topped her mark of 18 that she set against Midwestern State last season.

Tarleton found itself having to play catch up right out of the gate as ACU took the opening tip-off the other for the first two points of the game just two seconds into the game.

After a Bledsoe jumper, the Wildcats tacked on six unanswered points to lead 8-2 at 16:59.

The TexAnns responded, however, with a 14-5 run over the next 7:18 – with the final six points of the run coming from Bledsoe. The junior guard drained a 3-pointer before converting an old-fashioned 3-point play on the next possession.

After an ACU bucket made the score 16-15, Peyton Adamson struck for eight of Tarleton's nine unanswered points to push the lead to double figures for the first time in the game.

The Wildcats got as close as seven, but the TexAnns outscored ACU 6-4 over the final four minutes of the half to go into the break leading 37-28.

Out of the break, the Wildcats clawed back with an 8-0 run to cut the TexAnn lead to 37-36 before Adamson ended the run with a deep 3-ball of her own.

After ACU's layup at 18:39 for the final points of their 8-0 run, Tarleton held ACU without a field goal for the next 7:38 as Tarleton outscored the Wildcats 15-6 over that time to push the lead back to 10 at 52-42 with 11:01 left in the game.

ACU finally got a field goal to fall at 11:01 with a 3-pointer but Tarleton struck back with six straight – capped off by a Bledsoe 3-ball – to make it 58-45 with 8:36 left, forcing an ACU timeout.

After the Wildcats brought it to an 11-point game, Adamson drilled another 3-pointer to start a 12-0 TexAnn run to break it open at 72-49 with just over five minutes to play.

Tarleton was led in scoring by Adamson, who poured in 23 points. This was her third 20-point performance of the season.

Bledsoe (16) and Wright (12) were the only two other TexAnns in double figures.

Tarleton was 50 percent (24-48) from the floor, 47 percent (7-15) from downtown and 74 percent (23-31) from the free throw line. Abilene Christian was just 26 percent from the floor on 17-66 shooting.

The TexAnns have a 10-day hiatus before returning to action Dec. 18 against Texas-Permian Basin at 6 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
