STEPHENVILLE – It was a historic night for the Tarleton TexAnns (16-5, 13-0), who pushed their current win streak to 14 with a 102-76 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville.
Tarleton had two players set career highs, while the team also did something it had never done before.
The 102 points scored Wednesday night are the most Tarleton has scored in a conference game since joining the Lone Star Conference in 1994.
Individually,
Shelby Adamson recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 assists. Of the 12 dimes, nine came in the first half which allowed her to move past her former teammate
Sonya Sundberg for third place all-time at Tarleton.
The other career night belonged to
Shanae Lowrance, who scored 17 points on 6-7 shooting. She also added four rebounds.
Texas A&M-Kingsville actually got the scoring started by connecting for the first four points of the game, but a pair of Adamson free throws started an 18-4 Tarleton run.
With Tarleton leading 18-8 with 14:57 left, the Javelinas cut the deficit to seven but
Morgan Stehling hit a jumper for the TexAnns to start a 29-11 TexAnn run to give Tarleton its biggest lead of the half at 47-19 with 7:28 left.
Over the rest of the half, Tarleton never led by more than 28 and never less than 21.
Leading 67-44 with 15:58 left in the game,
Kiara Wright hit a layup to start a 28-6 run to give Tarleton its biggest lead of the game at 45 with 7:19 to play.
A 3-point barrage by Texas A&M-Kingsville allowed the Javelinas to bring the final score to just a 26-point deficit.
Peyton Adamson led all scorers with 24 points while Lowrance's 17 were good enough for second on the team. Shelby and Stehling also cracked double figures with 13 and 12, respectively.
Wright led all rebounders with 10 and just missed her fourth double-double of the season with eight points in just 18 minutes of action.
Tarleton shot 53 percent from the floor while TAMUK was only 37 percent.
The TexAnns hit the road this weekend for their final regular season game against Incarnate Word. Tip-off in San Antonio is set for 2 p.m.
