STEPHENVILLE – Much like the last time Tarleton and West Texas met on the hardwood, there is more at stake than just any other win or loss.
For Tarleton, Saturday's game in Canyon has championship implications and for the Lady Buffs, it's about keeping their playoff hopes alive.
The TexAnns enter Saturday's game coming off back-to-back wins against Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico while the Lady Buffs have won six straight, including a 78-61 win over Texas A&M-Commerce Wednesday.
With a win, Tarleton would secure at least a share of the Lone Star Conference championship and would secure the title outright with a loss by Midwestern State. The TexAnns can also secure the No. 1 seed in the LSC tournament in Allen with a win Saturday.
A loss by the Lady Buffs could hinder their chances of rising in the South Central Regional Polls. WT is sitting in the No. 9 spot as of the latest release.
Tarleton is led in scoring by
Shelby Adamson – who missed significant time in the last game against WT due to foul trouble – with her 13.9 points per game while
Peyton Adamson (13.1) and
Kiara Wright (13.0) are also averaging double figures.
WT is led by a trio of double figure scorers Kenisha Harris (14.6), Devin Griffin (13.1) and Joni Unruh (10.1). Harris went for 25 against Tarleton last month.
Tarleton has won three straight games over West Texas A&M and last season's victory in Canyon is just the second road win for Tarleton in this series. The only Tarleton win in Canyon came Feb. 14, 2002.
Tip-off for the TexAnns is set for 4 p.m. from the First United Bank Center in Canyon and a live radio broadcast can be heard on KSTV 93.1 in Stephenville or on TarletonSports.com.
