DENTON – Despite a valiant second-half effort, the Tarleton TexAnns could not overcome a rough first half and dropped their first Lone Star Conference game of the season – a 48-55 loss on the road to Texas Woman's.
The loss also ended Tarleton's 15-game winning streak.
The TexAnns opened play by going 0 of their first 13 shots from the floor.
Tara Towns finally snapped the offensive drought with a 3-ball in front of the Texas Woman's bench.
Before the Towns' 3-ball, Tarleton may have been lacking offensively, but their defense wasn't allowing Texas Woman's to do much better.
Over the first nine minutes of the game, the Pioneers were just 3-8 from the floor.
In the final 10 minutes of the opening frame, the Pioneers were able to get a little breathing room. A perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe and 4-10 shooting compared to Tarleton's 4-5 and 3-15 gave the Pioneers a 26-15 lead at the break.

At the 15:48 mark, however,
Peyton Adamson hit her first 3-ball of the night to start a 7-2 TexAnn run to bring the deficit back to 11 at 36-25.
After a pair of TWU buckets and Tarleton trailing 40-25 with 10:26 left, another Towns 3-pointer started the TexAnns' best run of the night – an 11-0 push to bring the deficit to just four at 40-36.
After trading buckets, Towns got loose on a breakaway for a layup to make the score 46-42 with 1:50 left. Texas Woman's answered with a layup on the other end to keep the lead at six with 1:30 left.
With time winding down, Tarleton got a pair of looks from beyond the arc, but couldn't convert and were forced to foul. TWU hit the ensuing free throws to extend the lead to eight.
The rough night from beyond the arc continued down the stretch and TWU hit its free throws in the final minute to hand Tarleton the loss.
The TexAnns outscored TWU in the second half and shot the ball 44 percent from the floor, but still struggled from deep going just 2-11.
