STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will travel to Portales, N.M. to take on the Greyhounds in the Lone Star Conference opener for the Texans. It will be a four-game series starting Friday at 3 p.m.
Tarleton is 7-6 on the year, but winless on the road in five contests. The Texans have had plenty of time to prepare though after being off since March 4.
On the season, Tarleton is hitting a .230 average with a .313 slugging percentage and a .339 on-base percentage.
Ethan Stuckly is leading the way with a .325 mark, nine RBI's and a .500 sluggin percentage.
Noah Ringenberger is adding a eight RBI's and a .320 average while leading the team with 16 hits and 12 runs scored.
The Texan pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.76 while holding opponents to a .255 batting average. Two-time LSC Pitcher of the Week
Pete Perez leads the team with a 2-1 record, a 0.39 ERA, 27 strikeouts and one complete game shutout.
Matt Buckmaster is also 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA and 26 innings of work. His 19 strikeouts are second on the team.
Britt Robertshaw has been effective in the closer's role with a pair of saves and a 1.69 ERA.
Tarleton has already defeated Eastern New Mexico this year, 8-2, in a non-conference meeting in Abilene.
The Greyhounds are 9-7 this season with a 2-1 home record. ENMU boasts wins over New Mexico Highlands and No. 27 Abilene Christian, both of whom upended the Texans this year.
Overall, the Greyhounds have a .323 average and a .402 on-base percentage. Luis Quinones has had a strong start to the season, hitting .460 with 29 hits and 18 runs scored. Joe Huwer leads the team with 16 RBI's, while Alex Schultz and Sam Hedrick both add 10 apiece.
The ENMU pitching staff has been susceptible to runs and post a 4.99 ERA. Brett Humphries, Andrew Martin and Ryan Boydstun all have two wins under their belt while five different Greyhounds have recorded a save this season.
Tarleton and ENMU will begin their four-game set on Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with the series wrapping up Sunday at 1 p.m.
