Texans crush Greyhounds in LSC opener, 16-4

- Box Score

PORTALES, N.M. - The Tarleton baseball team easily defeated Eastern New Mexico on Friday 16-4 in seven innings as the Texans opened up Lone Star Conference play.

Tarleton and ENMU had met once earlier this season with the Texans taking that game 8-2.  Friday's contest would be even more one-sided with Tarleton controlling all aspects of the game.

The Texans got the scoring started in the top of the second with a pair of runs on Ryan Small's two-run blast to left center.  The Greyhounds managed to answer with a single run in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 ball game.

Tarleton added another pair of runs in the third on an RBI single by Ethan Stuckly and a sacrifice fly by Blake Silguero.  Once again, ENMU added a solo run in the bottom of the third and trailed 4-2.

With a two-run advantage, the Texans continued to keep their foot on the gas by scoring four runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Once the dust settled, Tarleton had a 16-4 victory over ENMU.  The Texans totaled 15 hits in the game.

Andy Wolfe paced the Texans with a 4-for-5 outing, four RBI's, two stolen bases and a run scored.  Small finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run,  three RBI's and four runs scored.

Garrett Hardey added two RBI's, while Blake Silguero went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and three runs scored.

Joseph Aquino (1-2) was lights out on the mound after working all seven innings with four runs allowed and five strikeouts.

Andrew Martin (2-3) suffered the loss for ENMU by giving up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The Texans (8-6) and Greyhounds will go at it again on Saturday as part of a doubleheader starting at noon.
