Tarleton basketball mentors kids at Kerr Elementary

ALLEN - The Tarleton men's basketball team took time out of their busy schedule at the Lone Star Conference Tournament to go to local Kerr Elementary to interact with the kids.  The Texans talked about life lessons, sportsmanship and basketball.

Tarleton Athletics take pride in giving back to the community and the athletic programs all find time to do their part.

The Texan basketball team spoke with students about what it takes to be a positive role model and successful student athlete.  They also did some hands-on skills training with the children of Kerr Elementary, and even displayed a few dunks for the kids.

Head coach Lonn Reisman talked about the importance of community service as part of the LSC Tournament experience.

"Community service means a lot to us as a team and to Tarleton Athletics," said Reisman.  "Any time we can give back to the community and to our fans, we leap at the opportunity.  It means so much to these guys to see the smiles on the kids faces and it truly is rewarding.  We want to do our part in promoting sportsmanship and give positive examples for the children to look up to."

Tarleton will get back to competition on Saturday in the LSC Tournament Championship game at 7 p.m. in the Allen Event Center.
