Texans end series with West Texas on sour note with 15-4 loss

- Box Score

STEPHENVILLE – The Texans and Buffaloes ended the series Sunday at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex as West Texas took a 15-4 decision over Tarleton in seven innings.

WT got things going early when they loaded the bases in the top of the second inning with nobody out.  An RBI single and a sacrifice fly made it a 2-0 contest in the Buffs' favor.  They weren't done there though and a bases-loaded double cleared the bases and pushed WT's lead to 5-0.  LSC Preseason Player of the Year Jess Cooper had been quiet all series, but got a big two-run double, pushing the margin to 7-0.

By the end of the tumultuous inning, the Buffs' batted through the line-up and took an 11-0 lead.

Tarleton managed to get on the board in the bottom of the third when Noah Ringenberger ripped an RBI single down the right field line, cutting the deficit to 10 runs.

The next inning, the Texans struck again when Garrett Hardey reached on a throwing error.  Andy Wolfe then drove in Hardey on an RBI single to center.

The Buffs added another run in the top of the fifth to make it a 12-2 ball game.

To lead off the bottom of the fifth, Tarleton countered as Ryan Small hit a high fly ball to left that cleared the fence and cut the deficit to nine.  It marked his second home run of the season.

Also in the fifth, Hardey had a noteworthy moment as he stole his fourth base of the game, tying a school record last set in 1992.

WT continued to cause problems for the Tarleton pitching staff and added three more runs in the sixth.

Down 15-3, the Texans needed to get some offense going and Ty Crump's RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning made it a 15-4 contest.

In the end, the Buffs proved to be just too much for the Texans on Sunday as they took the series finale 15-4.

Kyle Supak (0-2) suffered the loss after getting roughed up for six runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Steven Diaz (1-1) started for WT and got the win after going five innings and giving up three runs on six hits.

Stuckly finished the game 2-for-3, while Robinson also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Ringenberger, Crump and Wolfe recorded RBI's with Small adding the solo home run.

The Texans will now face No. 11 St. Mary's on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Stephenville at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
