STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will host the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four-game set starting Friday at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.
The Texans enter the game with a 12-10 record overall and a 5-3 LSC mark. Tarleton has had a couple of tough games as of late, but the losses have been to LSC-leading West Texas A&M and No. 1 St. Mary's.
With a 5-4 home record, the Texans will look to defend their home turf against a dangerous Kingsville squad.
On the season, Tarleton is hitting for a .275 average, a .380 slugging percentage and a .378 on-base percentage. They also post a .949 fielding percentage and a .684 stolen base percentage.
Ethan Stuckly leads the team with a .397 average, 29 hits, eight extra-base hits and 15 RBI's.
Garrett Hardey has team-highs with 16 RBI's and 12 stolen bases, while
Ryan Small has 24 hits, a .304 average and three home runs.
The Texan pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.07 on the season with 150 strikeouts in 179 innings of work.
Pete Perez has been the ace so far this season and is the reigning LSC Pitcher of the Week. On the year, Perez has a 4-1 record, 0.97 ERA, three complete games, two shutouts and 37 strikeouts.
Matt Buckmaster is close behind with a 3-1 record, a 3.08 ERA and one complete game while
Britt Robertshaw has a 0.87 ERA and two saves in eight appearances.
A&M-Kingsville on the other hand is 15-7 on the year and 4-4 in LSC action. The Javelinas have been dominant at home, but post just a 4-3 road record. They split their conference series with 2-2 records against Angelo State and Abilene Christian.
This year, TAMUK has a .248 average, .335 slugging percentage and a .335 on-base percentage. Jake Mendiola leads the team with a .324 mark, 14 RBI's and 22 hits. Trent Wagner has contributed a .302 average and 17 runs scored while Taylor Taska is second on the team with 11 RBI's.
The Javelina pitching staff has been strong as of late and now has a 2.47 ERA, which leads the LSC. They also have 167 strikeouts and seven saves in 185 2/3 innings. Jaden Dillon leads the way with a 4-0 record, a 0.69 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Adam Aspaas has added a 5-1 record, a 1.60 ERA and three complete games. Cameron Dullnig is the closer and has five saves in nine appearances.
