STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton (25-10, 10-2) puts its top conference record on the line and goes for its fifth straight LSC series win this weekend when Eastern New Mexico (7-25, 1-11) comes to town for a three-game set beginning Friday.

The TexAnns come into the series off a 2-1 series win at Cameron last weekend while Eastern New Mexico split a non-conference series with New Mexico Highlands Wednesday.

After taking the doubleheader against Cameron last Saturday, Tarleton has improved to 10-2 in Lone Star Conference play and has won four straight conference series.

Meanwhile, the Zias have struggled by only winning one game in conference play - a 6-3 win over Midwestern State on March 2 - but have faltered since by losing 15 of their last 17 games.

Eastern's problems begin in the pitching circle, having four pitchers on staff with the team ERA leader posting a 6.61 mark. The other three pitchers have ERAs of 8.33, 10.42, and 18.00.

The Zias pitching staff is last in the conference with a team ERA of 6.34.

Meanwhile, the TexAnns boast the second-best pitching staff in the conference with a 2.61 ERA and 233 strikeouts, led by Samantha Swanda (2.19 ERA and 125 K's) and Randi Fentress (2.96 ERA and 101 K's).

Offensively, Eastern comes into the weekend with a team average of .286 but have a quartet of .300 hitters led by Katie Ramsay with a .337 mark.

Tarleton's Katie Welborn comes into the weekend with a .413 average, which makes her the seventh-best hitter in the conference. The TexAnns also have Arianna Rodriguez (.374), Swanda (.345) and Bailee Mauldin (.305) above the .300-plateau.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Friday night, which will be immediately followed by game two, before the series wraps up Saturday at 12 p.m. Saturday's game is 'Sonic Saturday' and all fans in attendance will receive a coupon for free food at Sonic, and the Texan Cheer Squad will be running a consession stand for the entire series.
