STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton baseball team fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Game one ended as an 8-1 final, while the second game was closer at 7-5.

Game 1 – TAMUK 8, Tarleton 1

The Texans got off to a fast start with back-to-back-to-back singles by Noah Ringenberger, Blake Silguero and Garrett Hardey, loading the bases with one out.  Unfortunately, Tarleton would not be able to capitalize and left all three men stranded.

Kingsville opened the scoring with a pair of solo blasts in the top of the second.  It marked the first home runs Tarleton starter Pete Perez had given up all season.

Perez started to settle in though as he struck out five of the next six batters in the third and fourth.

Blake Silguero got his third hit of the day in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to left, making it a 2-1 contest.

The Javelina hitters finally figured out Perez in the top of the seventh with five straight singles, plating four Kingsville runs.  TAMUK would go on to make it an 8-1 ball game before the end of the inning.

After the tumultuous final inning, Tarleton fell to Kingsville, 8-1.

Perez (4-2) got just his second loss of the year despite striking out nine Javelinas in 6 2/3 innings.  He did allow eight runs, seven earned, in the contest though.

Adam Aspaas (6-1) picked up the win after giving up just one run on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Silguero finished the contest 3-for-4 with the lone RBI.  Ringenberger and Chris Patton both had two-hit games for Tarleton, who compiled 10 hits in the contest.

Game 2 – TAMUK 7, Tarleton 5

Kingsville once again got the initial lead with two runs in the top of the second inning.  They looked to score more, but Tarleton catcher Jared Musgrove gunned down Julian Duran on a stolen base attempt to end the inning.

The Javelinas added another pair of runs in the third on a two-run single to center.  That put Tarleton in a 4-0 hole.  Kingsville would record two more runs before the end of the inning and the Texans went into the bottom of the third down by six.

Tarleton got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after Ringenberger reached on an error, then scored on a wild pitch.  The Texans ended up loading the bases later in the frame, but just as they had done in the first two games of the series, they left the runners stranded.

Kingsville starter Dallas Ponder had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning, but Jared Musgrove's lead-off single ended the effort.  A hit-by-pitch put two men on for Ryan Small who ripped a two-run single down the left-field line to make it a 6-3 contest.

Small was then plated on a wild pitch by relief pitcher Taylor Taska.  Garrett Hardey kept the rally going with an RBI single, cutting Kingsville's lead to just one run.

Heading into the seventh, Tarleton trailed the Javelinas 6-5.  Kingsville managed to add to their lead to put the Texans down two as they went into their final at bat, 7-5.

Tarleton was able to get a runner on with Ringenberger reaching on an in-field single, but he would be left out there as Kingsville won the game 7-5.

Britt Robertshaw (1-2) suffered the loss in just his second start of the season after giving up six runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Dallas Ponder (1-0) got the win after his four innings of work with just four earned runs allowed.

Tarleton falls to 12-13 on the season and 5-6 in LSC play.  Kingsville improves to 18-7 on the year and 7-4 in LSC action.

The Texans and Javelinas will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
