Tarleton rides big seventh inning to win over Hardin Simmons

- Box Score

ABILENE – The Tarleton baseball team scored seven runs in the fourth inning alone as the conquered the Cowboys of Hardin Simmons 9-3 in Abilene.

With the win, the Texans improved their record to 15-16 as Hardin Simmons fell to 15-15 on the season.

The host Cowboys got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs on a pair of hits.

Tarleton quickly answered though with two runs of its own in the top of the second.  Chris Patton plated Landon Thompson on an RBI single after Thompson had doubled to lead off the inning.  Patton would come around to score on double play, making it a 2-2 contest.

The score would remain that way until the huge fourth inning by the Texans.  Austin Coble got things going when he scored on a passed ball.  Ryan Small followed with a two-run double before Noah Ringenberger got an RBI double of his own.  Garrett Hardey and Thompson provided two more runs, with Hardey scoring on an error to end the pivotal fourth.

From there, it was all in the hands of the Tarleton pitching staff as they held off the Cowboys for a 9-3 victory.

The Texans used seven different pitchers in the game to get their relievers some work and it worked out to Tarleton's advantage as the kept the Hardin Simmons hitters off balance.

Taylor Christian (2-1) was awarded the win after tossing a perfect fifth inning.  Kenneth Stockton and Austin Coble also had perfect innings in relief.

Eric Zamora (0-4) was stuck with the loss for the Cowboys after allowing all seven runs in the fourth.

Tarleton will return home and return to Lone Star Conference play as it hosts Angelo State for a four-game series starting Friday at 3 p.m.
