STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will take on Hardin Simmons at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 in Abilene as the Texans take a break from Lone Star Conference play.
Coming off a series split with Incarnate Word, Tarleton (14-16, 7-9) will look to add to their win total when they face a talented Hardin Simmons squad.
The Texans are 6-7 on the road this year, hoping to even that total up on Tuesday. This season, Tarleton is hitting for a .279 average, as well as a .400 slugging percentage and a .377 on-base percentage. Andy Wolfe leads the team with a .346 average and 23 RBI's.
Ryan Small has also recorded 23 RBI's and five home runs, while
Garrett Hardey has added 21 RBI's and 13 stolen bases.
The Tarleton pitching staff has combined for a 4.80 ERA and 192 strikeouts in 241 2/3 innings.
Pete Perez leads the way with a 2.31 ERA, a 5-2 record, four complete games and 50 k's.
Matt Buckmaster has been just as effective with a 4-1 record, a 3.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts.
Hardin Simmons has had an up and down season with a 15-14 record and are 6-6 at home.
As a team, they have a .280 average, a .362 on-base percentage and a .392 slugging percentage. Troy Tarrant leads the team with a .383 average and 26 RBI's, while totaling six home runs and 13 doubles. Andrew Rehling has added a .362 average, 18 RBI's and 11 extra-base hits.
The Cowboys' pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.03 through 230 1/3 innings of work. James Simmons leads the way with a 4-1 record and a 2.49 ERA in relief for HSU. Tyler Brunneman is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA and a team-high 44 strikeouts as well.
First pitch Tuesday is slated for 7 p.m. in Abilene.
