Texans host No. 8 Rams for final LSC home stand of regular season

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will welcome No. 8 Angelo State Friday, Saturday and Sunday as part of a four-game Lone Star Conference series, which marks the final home stand of the season for the Texans.

Tarleton is 15-16 on the year and 7-9 in LSC play.  Coming off a big 9-3 win over Hardin Simmons, the Texans will look to keep their momentum going down the home stretch of the regular season against the Rams.

Overall, Tarleton has a .279 average, a .399 slugging percentage and a .377 on-base percentage.  Andy Wolfe leads the team with a .341 average to go with his 23 RBI's and eight stolen bases.  Ryan Small has team-highs with 25 RBI's and five home runs, while Garrett Hardey has added 22 RBI's and 13 stolen bases.

The Texan pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.74 on the year with 199 strikeouts in 250 2/3 innings pitched.  Pete Perez is the ace of the staff with a 2.61 ERA, a 5-2 record, four complete games and a 51-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.  Matt Buckmaster has been right behind Perez with a 4-1 record, a 3.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 46 innings of work.  Austin Coble and Tanner Ross have sub-3.00 ERA's in relief for the Texans.

Angelo State (No. 8 Collegiate Baseball) enters the series with a 27-10 record, a 11-5 conference mark and an 8-6 road record.  The Rams are on a four-game winning streak as well after sweeping Eastern New Mexico in San Angelo.

The ASU offense has posted a .302 average, a .448 slugging percentage and a .398 on-base percentage.  Toby Semler leads the team with a .350 average and 49 hits, while Lee Neumann has a .341 mark, 31 RBI's and 20 extra-base hits.  Ryan Greer is a major threat on the base paths with 22 stolen bases on the year.

As a team, the Rams have a 3.79 ERA with 268 strikeouts in 292 innings.  Rick Reyna is 4-4 on the year, but has a 2.92 ERA, two complete games and 49 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings.  Jake Feckley and James Conlee combine for an 8-2 record as both starters have sub-4.00 ERA and shutouts under their belt.

First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, with the doubleheader Saturday and Sunday's finale both starting at 1 p.m.

There will be a hot dog cookout Saturday prior to the doubleheader, starting at 12 p.m.
