STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will face Cameron in a four-game Lone Star Conference series scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. The Texans are just two wins away from clinching a spot in the 2012 LSC Championships in San Angelo.
At 22-19 on the year and 12-12 in LSC play, Tarleton is looking to make its fourth straight postseason trip. Cameron on the other hand will be battling with the Texans for the final playoff spot, so expect this weekend to be packed with exciting baseball.
This season, Tarleton is hitting for a .291 average with a .426 slugging percentage and a .389 on-base percentage. Winners of five of their last six games, the Texans also have a .946 fielding percentage and 65 stolen bases as a team.
Noah Ringenberger leads the way with a .329 average and 47 hits while
Ryan Small has team-highs in RBI's (34), home runs (7) and runs scored (38).
Blake Silguero also has seven home runs and 26 RBI's to add to the attack.
The Tarleton pitching staff has combined for a 4.95 ERA and 272 strikeouts in 333 innings.
Pete Perez has had a strong first season for the Texans with a 6-3 record, a 2.70 ERA and 65 strikeouts to just 14 walks.
Matt Buckmaster has been a go-to guy for head coach
Bryan Conger as well with his 5-1 record, 3.64 ERA and 46 strikeouts.
Britt Robertshaw has been the hottest Tarleton pitcher as of late with six saves, including four in his four appearances.
Cameron enters the game with a 21-24 record and 10-14 LSC mark. They dropped three of four in their most recent action at No. 18 Angelo State after splitting with ACU.
The Aggie offense is hitting for a .294 average with a .390 slugging percentage and a .370 on-base percentage. The one thing Cameron has going for them is their 14-7 home record, where the offense has been productive. Taylor Lyons leads the team with a .333 average, five home runs and 14 doubles. Josh Dawson adds 31 RBI's while Brad Blummer is batting over .330 as well.
The pitchers for Cameron have combined for a 5.80 ERA on the season. James Rhodes is the ace of the staff with a 6-4 record, a 3.99 ERA and four complete games. Clay Vanderlaan is another name to remember with his five wins, three complete games and 55 strikeouts. Aaron Kleekamp is in the closer's role with four saves on the year in 19 appearances.
Earlier in the season, the Texans defeated Cameron 7-0 at a non-conference tournament in Abilene. Tarleton also leads the all-time series with the Aggies 27-16, which dates back to 1996.
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's finale starting at 1 p.m.
