STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton baseball team will begin their four-game series with Incarnate Word on Friday and will wrap-up the series on Saturday in San Antonio.
The Texans will look to end their recent skid against the LSC Preseason favorites in the Cardinals. Tarleton is very familiar with UIW after meeting the 2011 LSC Champions five times last season. In the all-time series which dates back to 1989, the Cardinals lead the Texans 47-16.
On the year, Tarleton is 12-14, 5-7 in the conference and 4-5 on the road. As a team, the Texans are hitting a .276 average with a .391 slugging percentage and a .377 on-base percentage. Andy Wolfe leads the team with a .333 average to go with 15 RBI's, while
Garrett Hardey has team-highs with 19 RBI's and 13 stolen bases.
Ryan Small has added 17 RBI's, 24 runs, and four home runs as well.
The Texan pitching staff has combined for a 4.78 ERA compared to opponents' 4.84 mark.
Pete Perez leads the team with a 4-2 record, 2.27 ERA, three complete games and 46 strikeouts.
Matt Buckmaster has been just as effective with a 3-1 record, a 3.23 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
Incarnate Word on the other hand has had some woes of their own with an 11-12 overall record. The Cardinals are also 6-6 in LSC play and 5-3 at home, but are coming off a series win over Cameron.
Overall, UIW is hitting for a .287 average with a .407 slugging percentage and a .371 on-base percentage. Jordan Littlefield is leading the team with a .379 average and a .517 slugging percentage. His 12 RBI's are second only to Lucas Miller's 13 RBI's this season.
The Cardinal pitchers have a 4.92 ERA overall and three complete games. Marc Gomez has two of those complete games to go with a 2.43 ERA, a 2-0 record and 33 strikeouts. Jorge Guarneros is 3-3 with a 3.34 ERA coming off a first team All-LSC performance in 2011.
The weekend series will be a pair of doubleheaders with Friday's games starting at 3 p.m and Saturday's games starting at 1 p.m.
