STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton football program under the direction of head coach
Cary Fowler released their schedule for the upcoming 2012 season.
The Texans are coming off a year in which they went 6-5 and won five straight to end the season. Lone Star Conference wins over Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Incarnate Word highlighted a strong season by the Tarleton squad. This year, the Texans will be looking to build on that success with a very young team.
Tarleton will begin the season on Sept. 8 against last year's No. 1-ranked team, Midwestern State in Stephenville. That game will kick-off at 7 p.m. as the Texans and Mustangs open up the season.
The Texans will stay in conference the following week when they head to Cowboys Stadium for the second annual Lone Star Football Festival on Sept. 15. Tarleton will face Abilene Christian at 4 p.m. that Saturday afternoon in Arlington.
Next up, Eastern New Mexico will travel to Stephenville on Sept. 22 for a Family Weekend game against Tarleton starting at 7 p.m. at Tarleton Memorial Stadium.
On Sept. 29, the Texans will head on the road for their first true away game of the season. Tarleton will face West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. in Canyon.
After that, Tarleton gets a break from LSC play to take part in the LSC/Gulf South Conference 1st and 10 Challenge. The Texans will host Delta State at 7 p.m. for the first part of the series on Oct. 6.
Next, Tarleton will face A&M-Commerce on the road on Oct. 13 and host A&M-Kingsville at home on Oct. 20. It will be homecoming against the Javelinas, with both of those games taking place at 6 p.m.
The Texans will then travel down to San Antonio to take on Incarnate Word at 7 p.m. for the final conference road game of the season on Oct. 27.
North Alabama will be the next obstacle in Tarleton's bid for a playoff birth, as the Texans travel 14-hours East to Florence, Ala. Kick-off will be at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3 against the Lions.
Tarleton will wrap-up the 2012 regular season against Angelo State on Nov. 10 as part of Military Appreciation Day. The time for the ASU game will be 7 p.m.
All times and dates are subject to change, so check back at TarletonSports.com for any updates. Ticket information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
Coach Fowler took the time to discuss the schedule and preview the upcoming season in the video link above.
