Bledsoe's career night lifts TexAnns to third straight win

Tarleton knocks off LCU to move to 3-0 this season; Thomas, Bledsoe, MVP Wright named all-tournament

Joined by Kelsey Hoppel and Haley Burton of LCU, Tarleton's Kiara Wright, Kathy Thomas and Brianna Bledsoe were named to the Whataburger TexAnn Tip-Off All-Tournament team. Wright was named the MVP after averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds in the last two games.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Brianna Bledsoe scored a career-high 29 points Saturday night to lead Tarleton past the previously undefeated Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps in the final game of the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger.
 
Tarleton improved to 2-0 for the tournament, finishing as the only one of the four teams playing to escape the weekend with an undefeated record. All four teams entered the weekend with no losses.
 
Bledsoe and Kathy Thomas was named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts this weekend while Kiara Wright was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in the last two games.
 
Lubbock Christian came out swinging with a 10-2 run over the first three minutes. They maintained their eight-point advantage through the first five minutes with a 14-6.
 
Meagan O'Dell answered for the TexAnns, however, with back-to-back buckets off the bench for Tarleton to start an 8-0 for Tarleton and knot the game at 14-14. Shanae Lowrance scored the final three of the run after O'Dell's five to start it.
 
The teams stayed even over the next seven minutes with neither team building more than a 3-point advantage, but with LCU leading 28-26, Tarleton got a free throw from Kiara Wright and a jumper by Keyra Johnson to start a 10-0 run that put the TexAnns in the driver's seat for the rest of the game.
 
LCU pulled within four but Tarleton went into halftime leading by 11 at 49-38.
 
The TexAnns stayed in control over the majority of the second half, but Tarleton saw a 17-point second half lead shrink down to seven with just under 2:30 left to play in the game.
 
A Bledsoe 3-ball ended the LCU run and pushed the Tarleton lead back to double figures. The TexAnns led by at least seven for the remainder of the game en route to moving to 3-0 on the young season.
 
Bledsoe, a senior from Stephenville, had the best statistical night of her career with 29 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor, 3-4 from downtown and a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. She also recorded 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
 
Kiara Wright was second on the team with 16 points but saw her double-double streak come to an end at 16 straight games dating back to January 19. She finished with eight rebounds in just 20 minutes of game time with four fouls.
 
Meagan O'Dell also tied her career high with 10 points, all in the first half, while Morgan Ashmore chipped in a season-high 10 as well. Shanae Lowrance (8), Karli Moore (8), Kathy Thomas (6), Ikpeaku Iwobi (6) and Keyra Johnson (2) rounded out the scoring for Tarleton.
 
The TexAnns will hit the road for the first time this season for a Tuesday night matchup against Northeastern State at 6 p.m. in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
