Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The No. 17-ranked Tarleton State Texans picked up a 106-41 non-conference win over Dallas Christian on Tuesday, moving to 5-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Tarleton, who came into the contest averaging 101.2 points a game, has scored 100-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time since the 1997-98 season and have now scored at least 85 points in five straight contests for the first time in school history.
Four Texan players scored in double-figures on Tuesday, with De'Andre Upchurch leading the way after scoring a game-high 22 points.
Chuck Guy poured in 15 points, while
Emmanuel Andrews (12 points) and
Michael Hardge (10 points) tallied double-digits off the bench.
The Texans have shot better than 50.0 percent from the field in its first five games this season after finishing Tuesday's contest with a 60.0 percent effort. Tarleton made 12 three-pointers on 44.4 percent shooting and recorded 44 more points in the paint.
The Texans jumped out to an early 11-2 lead and then later made it an 18-4 game with a three-pointer from De'Andre Upchurch at the 14:48 mark of the first half. The Crusaders would score four of the next six points before a 25-0 run put the Texans up 44-8 with less than six minutes to play before the half.
Tarleton closed out the half with a 15-9 run and took a 59-17 lead into the locker rooms.
The Texans shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the first half, which included going 7-for-14 from beyond the arc. Tarleton's defense held DCC to just 8-of-25 (.320) shooting and out-rebounded the Crusaders 23-12.
Tarleton scored 17 points off 15 DCC turnovers and poured in 27 points off the bench as well.
The Texans came out of the break with a 14-1 run to push its lead to 73-18 and then later extended its lead to 59 points on a pair of free throws from
Tashawn Mabry at the 9:55 mark.
DCC would only get back to within 53 points on two separate occasions down the stretch before Tarleton closed out the contest with a 17-5 run to preserve the 64-point win – the team's largest margin of victory on the season.
Davene Carter led the team on the boards with 11 rebounds, while
Jon Cathey-Macklin and Mabry followed with five rebounds each. Tarleton out-rebounded the Crusaders 45-23 on the evening.
Tarleton forced a season-high 28 turnovers and had 16 steals on the evening as well.
Tarleton will break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to the court this Saturday, Nov. 30, against former LSC foe, East Central. Tip-off between the Texans and Tigers is set for 7 p.m. in Stephenville.
