TexAnns win fifth straight in blowout of Cedarville

McGrath scores 17 off bench to lead TexAnns in rout of Yellow Jackets

For the second time in the last three games, Raven McGrath led the TexAnns in scoring off the bench - this time recording 17 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor to lead No. 19 Tarleton to a 77-59 win over Cedarville Tuesday.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Led by double-figure scoring efforts from five TexAnns, No. 19 Tarleton (8-1) wrapped up the 2013 calendar year and pushed its current winning streak to five with a 77-59 win over Cedarville (3-5) Tuesday night.

For the second time in the last three games, Tarleton was led in scoring from Raven McGrath as the sophomore from Grandview poured in 17 points in 21 minutes.

Behind McGrath with double-figure performances were Brianna Bledsoe with 16, Kiara Wright with 15, Kathy Thomas with 10 and Shanae Lowrance, who scored a season-high 13 points. Wright also added 10 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double.

Lowrance got the scoring started with a layup off a pass from Wright just 14 seconds into the game. Bledsoe and Wright each added layups on the next two Tarleton possessions to put the TexAnns up 6-0 early.

After five unanswered, Cedarville pulled within one before Tarleton extended its lead back to four with a 3-ball from Bledsoe. The Yellow Jackets added another layup to make it a two-point game with 15:42 left in the opening half.

A Wright layup ended the run and started a 9-0 Tarleton run that gave the TexAnns its biggest lead of the game at 18-7.

The Yellow Jackets pulled back to four at the 9:13 mark but the TexAnns answered with four straight 3-pointers on their next four possessions – one by Meagan O'Dell, one by Bledsoe and two from Thomas – to push their lead to 32-18.

Tarleton never led by less than double figures the rest of the way and went into the half with a 40-22 lead. They are undefeated this season when leading at halftime.

Out of the break, Tarleton pushed its lead to as many as 33 and led by less than 20 on only two occasions – a 19-point lead at the 18:59 mark and the final 18-point victory.

Behind the five double-figure scorers, only O'Dell and Karli Moore scored for the TexAnns with each one recording three points. Every TexAnn on the active roster saw game time.

Tarleton shot 49-percent from the floor on 29-59 shooting and 43-percent from beyond the arc on 9-21 shooting. The TexAnns outscored Cedarville in the paint 38-20 and off the bench 23-12.

Over the current five-game winning streak, Tarleton is outscoring opponents 84.6 points to 51.4 and shooting .478 from the floor as a team. Wright (20.2), Bledsoe (11.2), Thomas (11.0) and McGrath (10.8) are averaging double-figure points over the streak.
