ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Tarleton Texan baseball team dropped a close game to Ouachita Baptist on Sunday, falling 1-0 to the Tigers at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Despite a great pitching performance from Tarleton's
Matt Buckmaster (1-1), the Texans came away on the losing end of Sunday's single-game nine inning affair. Buckmaster (LHP, Sr, Holliday) threw a complete game in the loss, giving up just one run on four hits and striking out 11 batters in 8.0 innings.
The run against Buckmaster was unearned as OBU's Duncan Collins singled home Landon Moore for the game's only score. Moore singled earlier in the inning and later moved to second base on an error. His run was then unearned and in 14.2 innings of work so far this season, Buckmaster still has an earned run average of 0.00.
The Texan offense collected nine hits on the afternoon, but five of those runners were stranded as OBU used a pair of pitchers to combine for the shutout.
Josh Everett (ND) worked 7.1 innings in the start for the Tigers. He gave up seven hits and struck out seven batters he faced. Louis DeJesus (1-1) picked up the win in relief, giving up just two hits and not allowing a run in 1.2 innings.
The Tigers improved to 2-4-1 overall with the win, while Tarleton dropped to 2-3-1 on the season.
The Texans will return to action this Tuesday, Feb. 12 for its home opener. Tarleton will host Texas Wesleyan in the first game of the season played at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Stephenville.
