STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The Tarleton Texans (2-3-1) will play its home-opener this Tuesday, Feb. 12, hosting Texas Wesleyan (5-3) at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Stephenville.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE TEXANS
• The Texans are coming off a 0-2-1 weekend in Arkadelphia, Ark. Tarleton dropped the first game of the series to OBU, 2-1, then the second game ended in a tie at 0-0 after it was called due to darkness. Inclement weather shortened Sunday's action to just one game where the Texans fell 1-0.

Pete Perez (1-0) earned a no decision on Saturday after giving up just one run on three hits in 7.0 innings of work. He struck out six and walked four.
Garrett Kelly (0-1) took the loss in the 12th inning, giving up four straight singles in the bottom half of the frame.

Miguel Ramirez (0-0) struck out nine batters in 6.0 innings in the second game on Saturday, but the game was called at the beginning of the seventh inning due to darkness. Neither team had scored, so both team earned a tie in the 0-0 affair.

Matt Buckmaster (1-1) was brilliant on Sunday, yielding just three hits and allowing just one run across to score (unearned). He struck out 11 OBU batters, but it wasn't enough as the senior southpaw took the L in a complete game loss. The Texans, despite getting nine hits on the afternoon, were unable to drive home any runs in a 1-0 shutout defeat.

Evan Robinson led the Texans at the plate over the weekend, hitting .375 as he collected three hits in eight trips to the plate.
Alvaro Moreno recorded a team-high four hits on the weekend, hitting .364 in three games for the Texans.

Ryan Small had just two hits on the weekend, but both of them were two-baggers.
ABOUT THE RAMS
• Texas Wesleyan is 5-3 overall, but are scheduled to play a road contest at Mary Hardin-Baylor at 4 p.m. on Monday before the time of this release.
• The Rams are coming off a 2-2 record over the past weekend. TWU shutout Sterling College in both games at LaGrave Field on Friday, but were swept in a doubleheader at Texas Lutheran on Saturday.
• TWU's head coach, Mike Jeffcoat, is in his 11th season with the Rams. The former Texas Rangers pitcher heads into Monday's contest against MHBU with a 359-255-1 record.
• Joel Rickman leads the team at the plate with a .360 batting average. He has three doubles and a pair of runs batted in on the season. Alex Padilla and Dusty Harper have each homered for the Rams this season. Charles Tabone leads the squad with 4 RBI.
• Both Sam Martin and Nolan Barberee have 2-0 records and 0.00 earned run averages. Martin had given up just two earned runs in 11.2 innings, while Barberee has allowed three unearned runs in 14.1 innings of work. Barberee leads the team with 17 K's on the season.
• The Rams are hitting .264 as a team and the pitching staff has posted a combined 3.26 ERA.

• Tarleton leads the all-time series 23-12 and have won four straight games over the Rams.
• The Texans won last the two-game series between the team's last season. Tarleton downed the Rams 9-7 at home and then picked up an 11-9 win in Fort Worth.
• The last time a Tarleton team fell to TWU came back on Mar. 22, 2010. The Rams defeated the Texans 12-7 in Stephenville.

• Despite the losing record heading into the week, Tarleton's pitching has been lights out so far this season, as the staff has a combined 1.37 ERA in six games. Tarleton's ERA leads the conference, with the next-best ERA being 2.43 (Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Matt Buckmaster has a 0.00 ERA in 14.2 innings this season. He lead the team with 18 K's.

Pete Perez has a 0.64 ERA and has 14 strike outs in 14.0 innings.
