Adamson's 30 points lead TexAnns past Javelinas in Kingsville

Junior also sets career high in 3-pointers in a game with eight

Peyton Adamson was 8-10 from 3-point land en route to her career-high 30-point performance Wednesday night as Tarleton knocked off Texas A&M-Kingsville 78-64.
Box Score KINGSVILLE – Prior to this season, Tarleton hadn't had a 30-point scorer since 2001. In 2013, they have two.

Peyton Adamson joined Kiara Wright as the second TexAnn to amass 30 points in a game this season as her 30-point performance led Tarleton past Texas A&M-Kingsville 78-63 at Hamption Inn Court Wednesday night.

Adamson put together the best first half of her Tarleton career to keep Tarleton in control of the game despite early foul trouble to Kiara Wright and Brianna Bledsoe, as well as a slew of TexAnn turnovers.

The junior guard from Rockwall was 6-8 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including a perfect 6-6 from downtown and 4-4 from the charity stripe en route to a 22-point first half.

The TexAnns got the scoring started when Wright grabbed her own offensive rebound and connected on the put back 21 seconds into the contest. The teams traded buckets through the 4-4 mark at 17:13.

Adamson began her streak at the 16:45 mark when she connected twice at the free throw line, and immediately following a Kingsville miss, drilled her first 3-ball of the night off an assist from Cheyenne Berry to put the TexAnns up 9-4.

From that point, Tarleton continued to pour on the points with a 20-6 run over the next 10:34 to build their biggest lead of the half at 29-10.

Over the final 5:33 of the first half, however, seven Tarleton turnovers aided a 20-8 Kingsville run to send the game into halftime with the TexAnns on top only 37-30.

Kingsville scored first out of the break to make it a five-point game, but a Wright layup started a 9-2 Tarleton run over the next 3:04 to push their lead back to 12 at 16:18.

The Javelinas cut the TexAnn lead to seven with 13:23 and tried to make a late run by pulling within eight at 6:45, but a jumper by Erin Sims pushed the Tarleton lead back to double digits as the TexAnns cruised over rest of the contest – never leading by less than 10 the rest of the way.

For the game, Adamson was 9-14 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line while also setting a new personal best in 3-pointers in a game with eight on 8-10 shooting from downtown. Her previous best was seven 3-pointers in a single game which she did twice last season.

This is the 12th 30-point game in Tarleton's 18-year NCAA history, completed now by seven different players.

Wright added her 16th double-double of the season, despite being limited to just five minutes in the first half. The junior center scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds while Bledsoe also finished with 11 points despite playing just four minutes in the opening half.

Freshmen Morgan Ashmore and Sims also had career nights, as Ashmore – the LSC's leader in assists this season – set a new personal best with 10 while Sims nearly recorded her first collegiate double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds – both career highs.

Tarleton will return home this weekend for a pivotal LSC matchup against Incarnate Word at 5 p.m. in Wisdom Gym for Pink Out night.
