SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Tarleton Texans (3-3-1) will play its first midweek game of the season as the team travels to San Antonio to face No. 123-ranked St. Mary's (8-3) in non-conference action this Tuesday, Feb. 19. First pitch between the Texans and Rattlers is set for 3 p.m. at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE TEXANS
• The Texans picked up a 6-4 decision over Texas Wesleyan last Tuesday at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.
•
Tanner Ross (ND) got the start for the Texans, giving up a pair of runs on just three hits and striking out a batter.
Troyal Yosko (1-0) picked up the win for the Texans in relief, allowing just a pair of hits and not allowing a run in 2.0 innings of work.
•
Garrett Kelly (S, 2) earned his second save of the season, coming in to closeout the ninth inning for the Texans. He gave up just one hit and managed to get three outs coming into the game with the bases loaded.
ABOUT THE RATTLERS
• St. Mary's currently ranks 13th in the nation and are coming off a 5-2 win over Texas-Permian Basin in Odessa on Saturday.
• The Rattlers swept the three-game series from UTPB, downing the Falcons 8-2 and 3-1 in a doubleheader on Friday.
• SMU is currently on a three-game winning streak after losing three consecutive games. The Rattlers opened the 2013 campaign winning its first five contests.
• Brandon Bates currently leads the team at the dish, collecting 17 hits in 42 at bats for a combined .405 batting average. He has one double on the season and has drove hom a team-high 11 runs batted in. He is also tied for the team lead with eight runs scored.
• Mario Maldonado and Derek Hamilton have each hit three doubles on the season and are tied for the team lead.
• Tuesday's scheduled starter Derek Moczygaemba brings in a 0-0 record after starting two games this season. He has allowed four runs on 13 hits in 11.1 innings of work, as he brings in an earned run average of 2.38 into the ballgame. He has eight strikeouts and opposing batters are hitting .302 against him.
• The Rattlers have a combined 2.01 ERA on the season. They have thrown two complete games and have one shutout on the season, to go along with a pair of saves.
• SMU is hitting .285 as a team and has 14 doubles, a pair of triples and no home runs on the year.
SERIES NOTES
• St. Mary's leads the all-time series 35-12 after sweeping the two-game, home-and-home series last year.
• The Rattlers have won three straight games against the Texans with Tarleton's last win coming back on Feb. 8, 2011. The Texans won the contest 6-5 in San Antonio, with
Miguel Ramirez picking up the win for the Texans.
• The Texans are 2-6 against SMU under head coach

PITCHING POWER
• Tarleton's pitching continues to be lights out so far this season, as the staff has a combined 1.75 ERA in seven games. Tarleton's ERA leads the conference, with the next-best ERA being West Texas A&M's combined 2.67 ERA.

Matt Buckmaster has a 0.00 ERA in 14.2 innings this season. He lead the team with 18 K's.

Pete Perez has a 0.64 ERA and has 14 strike outs in 14.0 innings.

Miguel Ramirez has looked solid in his first two starts after not pitching in nearly two years (injury). He has a 1.50 ERA and 12 K's in 12.0 innings.
• Tarleton's pitching staff has given up just 12 earned runs in 61.2 innings so far this season. They lead the league having given up just 14 runs total on the year.
BACK IN THE BOX
• The Texans were hitting just .227 as a team over its first six games, but have increased its team average to .237 after going 6-for-30 as a team against Texas Wesleyan.
Fola Lajide led the way with a pair of hits against the Rams and
Colten Boothe collecting a pair of hits as well.
MIDWEEK GAMES
• The Texans are 1-0 in midweek games so far this season, with its lone win coming last Tuesday against Texas Wesleyan.
• SMU is 1-1 in midweek games, with its last game ending in a loss, 9-7, in San Antonio.
• Last season the Texans were 4-2 in midweek games, with its only losses coming to the Rattlers.
UP NEXT
• Tarleton returns to play weekend baseball this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24. The Texans will host Arlington Baptist in a three-game set, which is set to leadoff on Friday at 3 p.m. at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.
• Follow a mini three-game home stand, the Texans return to the road on Tuesday, Feb. 26 to face former LSC foe, Southeastern Oklahoma. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader set to begin at noon in Durant, Okla.
