Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Tarleton Texans dropped a midweek non-conference game to No. 13-ranked St. Mary's, 4-1, at Wolf Stadium in San Antonio on Tuesday.
 
The Texans fall to 3-4-1 overall with the loss, while the Rattlers moved to 9-3 on the season and have won three straight against the Texans.
 
"We aren't tough enough,” Tarleton head coach Bryan Conger said. “That's my fault as the head coach. We will however get that issue corrected and learn what it means to compete and play with pride.”
 
SMU scored early, picking up a run in the first inning on a bases loaded ground out from Brandon Bates. Bates drove home another run in the third inning to make it a 2-0 game before Adrian Garcia made it 3-0 when he walked in the bottom of the fourth inning and later scored on a wild pitch.  
 
The Texans got on the board in the top of the seventh inning when Rustin Thomas singled and later scored on a RBI-double from Luke Slentz.
 
The Rattler pitching limited the Texans to that lone run, while the offense supplied an insurance run in the bottom half of the frame to go up 4-1.
 
SMU's Jonathan Perez came into the game and shutdown the Texans in the ninth inning to earn his third save of the season and secure the Rattler win.
 
Derek Moczygemba (1-0) picked up the win for the Rattlers, working 6.0 full innings and not allowing a run while yielding just two hits. He struck out two and walked a pair of batters as well.
 
Tanner Ross (0-2) took the loss for the Texans, allowing just the one run on two hits and striking out a batter in just an inning of work. He was releived by Kody Thiebaud, Seth Hallmark, Troyal Yosko and Garrett Kelly.
 
The Texans return home this weekend for a three-game set with Arlington Baptist at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville. First game is set for Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader to follow on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Starting pitchers have not been announced.
