Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton's
Rustin Thomas tallied a pair of hits, scored two runs and had three runs batted in, while four other Texan players collected two hits apiece in an 11-3 victory over Arlington Baptist at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville on Friday.
Tarleton's 11 runs were a season high as were the 13 hits posted against the Patriots on Friday.
Ryan Small went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs and
Alvaro Moreno,
Fola Lajide, and
Evan Robinson each contributed with two hits each on the day as well.
The Texans went up 2-0 after the first inning and then added another run in the third on Moran's RBI-double. ABC drove in a run in the fourth inning and then tied the game in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs making it a 3-3 game, but it was all Tarleton after that.
The Texans batted around in a four-run sixth inning that put Tarleton on top for good 7-3. The home team then added a run in the seventh and another three runs in the eighth to top the run total in double-digits for the first time since defeating Cameron 10-2 in the final game of the regular-season last year.
Pete Perez (ND) got the start for the Texans, but was relieved after 5.1 innings of work and allowing three runs on 10 hits. Perez struck out five batters and walked none.
Troyal Yosko (2-0) picked up his second win in a relief effort this season, pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He did not allow a hit and walked just one batter he faced.
ABC's Caleb Sims (0-1) picked up the loss as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings.
Seven of Tarleton's 13 hits were doubles on the day. Both of Lajide's hits on the day were two-baggers.
The Texans and Patriots will resume the series tomorrow with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex.
Miguel Ramirez (0-0) is scheduled to take the mound for the Texans in game one.
